Gothia Cup Innebandy

Truro Tsunami FC making history at Gothia Cup Innebandy

They’re traveling across the Atlantic to experience floorball in its homeland. When Truro Tsunami FC from Canada makes its debut at Gothia Cup Innebandy this winter, they’ll become the first Canadian team ever to take part in the tournament. With passion and curiosity for the sport, the team hopes to inspire more young Canadians to discover the sport of floorball.

When Truro Tsunami FC from Nova Scotia, Canada, step onto the court at Gothia Cup Innebandy in January, they won’t just be chasing wins — they’ll be making history as the first Canadian team ever to take part in the tournament.

The team discovered Gothia Cup through social media and word of mouth. “The tournament has such a strong reputation for its world-class competition,” says team leader Jennifer McKay. She continues, “We want our players to experience the sport at the highest level, in one of the world’s true floorball nations.”

For Truro Tsunami FC, it’s more than just about competing — it’s about learning. Facing top European teams will help their athletes understand the pace, tactics, and skill level that define international floorball. Jennifer says that the Sweden’s floorball culture is very inspiring. “We want to bring that experience home to help raise the level of the sport in Canada.”

While still developing, floorball in Canada has grown rapidly, with new clubs and leagues emerging across the country. Many of Truro Tsunami’s players come from ice hockey backgrounds and are drawn to the fast pace, dynamic, and accessible nature of floorball. “The sport has given our players incredible opportunities to travel, learn, and grow — both on and off the court,” Jennifer says.

As they prepare for Gothia Cup Innebandy, Truro Tsunami FC carry the pride of a nation — and the hope of inspiring a new generation of Canadian floorball players.
