The official Lisa Gabriell: "The most fun is getting to know so many new people"
The officials are invaluable for the Gothia Innebandy Cup. Lisa Gabriell is one of them.
Lisa Gabriell has been an official during both the Gothia Innebandy Cup, the Gothia Cup and the Partille Cup. In January, she will once again be an official during the Gothia Innebandy Cup. She enjoys contributing to tournaments as an official.
– The most fun is getting to know so many new people, both officials and players, says the 21-year-old.
You have been in charge of the canteen several times during the tournaments. What is the best thing about being a cafeteria manager and what do you get to do in that role?
– I have worked as both a canteen host and canteen manager several times and the most enjoyable part of the job is meeting and getting to know new people. During each cup, I have worked with new people and even though it has been stressful on some days, it has also always been fun. As canteen manager, I have been tasked with managing work in the canteen, training canteen hosts, distributing tasks and making sure that everything works as it should in the canteen during the cup.
– Sometimes it can be a challenge, especially in the beginning, to make sure that everything goes smoothly and sometimes unexpected things happen that can feel difficult, but at the end of the day everything usually works out. I think that the training you can attend before the start of the tournament was very helpful, but also that there were contact persons you could reach during the course of the cup in case something happened. Even though I have worked during both Gothia Cup and Partille Cup several times, it feels like I learn something new and come across new challenges every tournament.
– I'm quite young so I haven't previously had the task of managing work, but thanks to the Gothia Cup and Partille Cup I got that chance when I worked as a canteen manager, which I think was a very good experience in my life as I got to learn a lot a lot in a short period of time. Overall, I can say that I always had a lot of fun during the tournaments and have only positive memories from each cup.
What are your best memories? Can you tell us about any highlights?
– The most fun is getting to know so many new people, both officials and players. It's always fun when the teams come to the cafeteria and tell us how they've been doing during the games. One of the most memorable events is when the officials and the teams play football together after the work day or when the players invite the officials to come and watch when they play a game. Most of the time the features and the players are the same age and therefore get along very well so it's fun to see them playing and hanging out with each other.
What is the most fun about being an official during these big tournaments?
– I've never participated or played in a tournament, but I'm very interested in sports and have friends and acquaintances who have participated and played, so one of the reasons why I think it's so fun to work is because of my interest in sports. It's also fun to go and watch matches with other officials you get to know after the work day and support the teams that sleep over at the school you work at. I think that sports tournaments are something that most players find great fun and that's why it's so good that Gothia Cup exists and organizes such tournaments for teams around the world and it always feels so good to be a part of it all.
You have registered your interest in working with the Gothia Innebandy Cup in January. What do you think of that tournament?
– I have previously also worked with the Gothia Innebandy Cup as a canteen host and it is at least as much fun as the Gothia Cup and Partille Cup, even though it is usually a little smaller. I don't usually watch a lot of floorball in my spare time but find it a very interesting sport so it's fun to meet players and watch matches during the tournament.
You are involved in tournaments in several different sports. What do you like about floorball and the Gothia Innebandy Cup?
– Floorball is a very interesting indoor sport, but I don't think it is as common as, for example, football and handball in countries outside the Nordic countries, so I think it is good that there is a tournament where people from different countries and of different ages can gather and play together.
What do you normally do? And what are your interests besides sports?
– At the moment I am studying at university and studying criminology and psychology, which I find extremely interesting. As a student, I also think it's very good that the tournaments are held during holidays, because then I can work every year without worrying about it clashing with my studies. I find it interesting to watch sports now that I'm older rather than playing it myself. In addition to that, I also think that art, music and film are fun, says Lisa Gabriell.
