The girls from Nittedal Wolves look forward to play in Sweden

The girls in the team look forward to travel to Sweden to play floorball. But they just as much looking forward to hang out together and to meet floorball players from other countries.

Nittedal Wolves is a relatively new floorball club from Norway. They started in 2013 and are today one of the fastest growing floorball club in Norway. The club focuses on grassroots sports and has set a goal that "everyone should join", despite that, they had a hard time recruiting girls at first. In the autumn of 2019, they started the project "LIKE A GIRL" to recruit and retain girls. The project's focus is to find what motivates the girls and to develop what they are already good at. The proportion of girls in the club has since increased steadily.

We see that the girls learn positioning and playing as a team fast, so "PLAY LIKE A GIRL" is an honorary award. - Lars Friestad, leader at Nittedal Wolves

Until now, the team has only participated in tournaments in Norway. For the coming season, they want a bigger goal to look forward to and the choice fell on Gothia Innebandy Cup after recommendations from several other clubs.

They actually intended to participate in Gothia Innebandy Cup 2021, but due to the pandemic it was not possible. The 2021 tournament was also canceled. Now the situation is different and the team sees it as possible to go to Sweden and Gothenburg in January 2022.

- After a year with very few matches, we need new good experiences as a team, which we get that by playing matches. At the same time, we hope to be able to develop our sporting activities and be inspired by meeting teams from other countries. - Lars Friestad

Despite the pandemic, the team has had the opportunity to practice together for large parts of the past year, of course in accordance with local restrictions. Lars believes that the team was lucky compared to many others.

The girls are looking forward to going to the tournament and playing floorball in Sweden. But they are just as much looking forward to staying together in a classroom, meeting floorball players from other clubs, shopping and spending time with their friends. According to Lars, the most important thing is to create a sense of community, have fun together and be inspired to continue practicing floorball.
