Särö Seahawks won epic drama - shows support for Ukraine
All spectators in Prioritet Serneke Arena witnessed on Saturday that floorball can be insanely exciting.
Särö Seahawks IBK equalized with 17 seconds left and then defeated IBK Bergum/IBK Göteborg after a big drama. During the tournament, the B15 team takes the opportunity to show support for Ukraine.
– We want to show that we care, says the captain Holger Söderström, who wears an Ukraine armband during the games.
IBK Bergum/IBK Göteborg led by 3-2 until 17 seconds remained in the round of 16 against Särö Seahawks IBK. Then Holger Söderström stepped forward and scored the equalizer for Särö Seahawks IBK.
– It was incredibly exciting. The match was very nervous, you could say that we scored in the very last moment. It was great fun, I got a completely surreal feeling, says Holger Söderström about the equalizer.
The nail biter went to penalties and then Särö Seahawks IBK was the strongest team. They scored two penalties at the same time as the goalkeeper Ludwig Norrman played great. When the victory was secured, Särö Seahawk IBK's players celebrated with a hug party on the pitch.
– The penalty shootout was nervous, but we had practiced a lot. We knew there was going to be a shootout. I would say that we were prepared. And Ludwig is an incredibly good goalkeeper. He has practiced on penalties and is very good in goal, says the teenager.
He is proud of the morale the team displayed. They never gave up even though it looked tough until the final seconds of the game.
– When we were down, we felt that we had to turn this game around. Once we did, it felt surreal. It was very nice, says Holger Söderström.
As important as the victory, they believe, is to show support for Ukraine during the toughest time in the country's history. Holger wears a Ukraine armband instead of a regular team captain's armband during the Gothia Innebandy Cup.
– I bought it a long time ago, because of the crisis in Ukraine. I thought it was a good thing to buy it. I wear it to show support for Ukraine. The whole team is behind it. We want to show that we care. I follow the reporting. The war touches me, he says.
He thinks it's a lot of fun to be in Gothenburg and play the Gothia Innebandy Cup.
– The best thing about the tournament is meeting all the teams you have never met before and meeting a lot of people.
The captain hopes that their tournament will continue for a long time this weekend.
– I obviously hope that we go all the way to the final. We'll see how it goes, but the final is our goal! he says with determination.
