Nynäshamns IBK victorious in the final: "Never won such a big tournament"
The G15 final between Nynäshamns IBK and Warberg IBF was the last one out in Prioritet Serneke Arena on Monday – and it was the former who made it over the finish line with a victory.
Nynäshamns IBK is the winner of the G15 category after a very well-run tournament that was characterized by many exciting matches and sharp performances.
– This means a lot. We have never won such a big tournament before, says the match winner Emma Elander.
Nynäshamns IBK started the G15 final with a bang and took the lead when the match clock was at 58 seconds. The scorer was Melanie Björkman. Warberg IBF fought their way back into the match and equalized after twelve minutes of play after Ebba Svensson forced the ball in. There were a few chances created on both sides but there were no more than two goals during the first half. It was set to be a real thriller. It went on to be exciting too.
Both sides created opportunities in the second half. After just over 16 minutes the next goal was scored – and it was Nynäshamns IBK who made it. Emma Elander scored on a pass from Julia Myhre. Nynäshamns IBK reached the final by defeating Frederikshavn Blackhawks on penalties on Sunday evening. Now they won again and got to lift the prestigious Gothia Cup Innebandy trophy.
– It feels great to win. We have been in the final and lost many times, so now it was nice to win. This means a lot to us. We have never won a tournament this big before, says Emma Elander, who was named the match's MVP.
She is incredibly proud of their efforts in the tournament. The final is no exception.
– We fought really well and got the ball to the goal, says Emma Elander.
She scored the match winning goal and she's happy with her own performance.
– I think I ran a lot. I ran more than I usually do. It felt great.
Now celebrations await on Monday evening.
– We will celebrate and we will eat cake together at our next training, says the G15 champion.
