National team goalkeeper gets nostalgic when he thinks about Gothia Cup Innebandy
Tonight, Sweden plays the World Championship quarterfinal against Germany in Malmö. The Swedish goalkeeper Jon Hedlund, who plays for Pixbo IBK in the SSL, is ready for the task.
First, Jon Hedlund and his teammates go for gold in the World Championship. After that, it won't be long before a big game in SSL in front of thousands of enthusiastic Gothia Cup players in Scandinavium awaits. We've talked to the star goalkeeper.
Jon Hedlund is Sweden's first choice in goal in the World Championship. He loves playing for Sweden – especially in front of the home fans.
– It is always full of honor to represent Sweden and a little extra in a World Championship. The feeling is good and it feels as if the interest is building more and more. For the weekend, we hope for a full arena with blue and yellow support! says the experienced keeper.
What do you think about your gold chances?
– Our gold chances are good. The game has been stuttering a bit but it usually does at some point during a tournament. Now the elimination matches begin and then we will play our best floorball. If we do that, it will take a lot for someone to beat us.
After the World Championship, it's a lot of matches in the SSL again. On January 3rd, you play against Kalmarsund in front of around 10,000 Gothia Cup participants in Scandinavium. What do you think it will be like?
– I have played a couple of matches in connection with Gothia Cup Innebandy in Scandinavium before and they are usually great experiences. It's always fun to play in front of a lot of people and I hope for a great atmosphere!
What is your relationship to Gothia Cup Innebandy and memories from the tournament?
– I have played Gothia Cup Innebandy once as a youth player. It's one of those tournaments that I look back on nostalgically. Then you could play as many matches as you wanted per day. We went around Gothenburg, got to see different places and meet teams we didn't usually meet and do fun things between the matches. I think we lost in the semifinal. It has become a really strong floorball memory from my youth, says Jon Hedlund.
