Girls team from Switzerland will make their debut
Floorball is growing as a sport in Switzerland. This time, Unihockey Tösstal will make their debut in Gothia Cup Innebandy.
Unihockey Tösstal will compete in the G11/G12 category in January.
– Our goal is to offer the girls a great floorball experience that will motivate them for the sport and will be remembered for a long time, says the coach Michael Hunziker.
Unihockey Tösstal is a club from a small village located near Zurich. There are currently 150 members playing in ten teams, from adults to little ones. All the teams play on a small field – three against three. Therefore, Gothia Cup Innebandy will be a challenge for them.
– Due to the fact that we are playing three against three in the championship on a smaller field, we are competing without any great sporting expectations. Our goal is to offer the girls a great floorball experience that will motivate them for the sport and will be remembered for a long time, says Michael Hunziker.
They have heard good things about Gothia Cup Innebandy.
– We heard that Gothia Cup Innebandy is one of the largest youth tournaments and that it is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The players are most excited about playing in an international tournament. Some of the girls are looking forward to play five against five on the big field, the coach says.
He tells us how they became a part of the anniversary tournament:
– We received an email from Gothia Cup Innebandy in the summer. We then asked the parents of the juniors what they thought about the idea of playing a tournament in Sweden. To our surprise, the idea was well received. That's why we're here now.
They’re also looking forward to the opening ceremony – and the SSL match between Pixbo IBK and FBC Kalmarsund.
– I think some of the girls have never seen a floorball match where they play five against five live and certainly not with so many spectators.
In fact, floorball is a growing sport in Switzerland.
– Floorball has developed into one of the most popular team sports in Switzerland in recent years. With over 35,000 licensed players, Swiss Unihockey (the national floorball federation) is now the second largest team sports association in Switzerland after football.
What do you hope that your players will learn through the Gothia Cup Innebandy experience?
– We hope that we can strengthen the team spirit and the passion for this sport, says Michael Hunziker.
