Minna Karlsson won the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2020. Now she's a star player in SSL.
In 2020, Minna Karlsson scored the winning penalty in the G18 class in the Gothia Innebandy Cup for her team IBK Lund. Now the 20-year-old is a great player for the club in SSL.
– I have been to the Gothia Innebandy Cup for several years and it has always been just as much fun, with fun matches and good opportunities to hang out with the team, says Minna Karlsson.
She remembers the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2020 with pleasure.
– The days at Gothia were fun. It was a good opportunity to have fun with the team and to play a lot of floorball. My best memory from that tournament was when we won the final on penalties, says Minna Karlsson.
Yes, the final against FBC Kalmarsund in Partille Arena was a real thriller. The score was 3–3 after full time and went to penalties, where Minna Karlsson scored the winner with her second goal of the match. Wild celebrations then erupted among the IBK Lund players, who could lift the Gothia Innebandy Cup trophy to the sky.
– It was fun to play the final and it's always fun to decide important matches, so it was a nice feeling. We celebrated by eating something nice before taking the train home, Minna Karlsson remembers.
In the same year, she made her debut in SSL. Twin sister Tindra Karlsson, Alice Sköld and Hilda Hammer, who scored the important game tying goal to make it 3-3 in the final, were also part of the trophy winning team. Together, they now play in IBK Lund's SSL team, where Minna Karlsson is a prominent player. In the 2020/21 season, she made 27 points in 24 SSL matches and last season was even better, with 28 points in 25 SSL matches for the U19 national team-merited forward.
– My goal with floorball right now is to have fun and to develop as much as I can to become a better floorball player. Maybe the Gothia Innebandy Cup has helped me get better in decisive matches, says the 20-year-old.
Many players have taken the step from Gothia Innebandy Cup to SSL over the years. Minna Karlsson encourage children and young people interested in floorball to participate in the tournament, which was played for the first time back in 1994.
– They're going to play the Gothia Innebandy Cup because it is a good way to get to know their team better and have fun together, while at the same time you get to play floorball against teams you have not met before, says the SSL star.
