Frederikshavn Blackhawks took their name from a legend
Frederikshavn Blackhawks has an exciting name and is an ambitious club.
Soon the Danes will arrive in Gothenburg with five teams to play in the Gothia Innebandy Cup.
The leader Line Juul Thomsen talks about how the club got its name:
– The name Blackhawks comes from an old legend about the Indian who succeeded in gathering the Indian tribes in the West. The Indians had always fought each other while also fighting the cowboys who came and raided the Indian towns. The Indian Blackhawk, who was the son of a chief of a large Indian tribe, fell in love with a beautiful Indian girl who was the daughter of another chief. Two chiefs' children getting together was not seen well, but Blackhawk managed to persuade the two chiefs to join a tribe, so that they could fight the cowboys together and thereby also remain a couple. Kind of the same thing has happened in Frederikshavn, where two floorball clubs fought each other, but we ended up merging and getting a stronger club, says Line Juul Thomsen.
Frederikshavn Blackhawks will participate in the Gothia Innebandy Cup with a total of five girls and boys teams aged twelve to 15 years.
– We have teams that never give up, plays physically and loves to play offensive floorball. We're good at staying focused and all players can play in all positions. Besides, we have a good relationship, she says.
All the girls and boys in the club are excited about going to the tournament. The girls' team that Line Juul Thomsen is responsible for is maybe the most excited team among them.
– We come to the Gothia Innebandy Cup to play against other girls' teams, and see how far we can go. We only play against boys in Denmark.
She describes the tournament as a big floorball party.
– It's all about floorball there, we play against other girls' teams, and then it's just a boat ride away. It's a perfect tournament for us.
The team has participated twice before and they have won bronze in the A playoffs.
– The players love the Gothia Innebandy Cup. They're most looking forward to playing against foreign teams and other girls. It's always great to play against teams from other countries, we're looking forward to it, says the leader.
