"An unforgettable experience for teams from Slovakia"
FBK AS Trencin is one of the clubs from Slovakia that will play in the Gothia Innebandy Cup 2023.
Peter Klapita is the coach for FBK AS Trencin. The Slovakian club will come to Gothenburg in January to participate in the Gothia Innebandy Cup.
Peter, can you tell us about your club?
– We’re Florbalový klub AS Trenčín with a lot of youth and men’s teams. Last year, we were the most successful youth club in Slovakia with four medals from Slovak championships.
Why are you choosing to play in the Gothia Innebandy Cup in 2023 and how many teams will participate?
– Before corona started, we were attending Gothia Innebandy Cup with a team of boys under twelve years but than two consecutive tournaments were canceled where we wanted to attend also, so now we choose to come with two boys teams, born 2007 and 2008. We’re really looking forward to it! We choose to play at Gothia Innebandy Cup because of the opportunity to face a lot of top Swedish clubs and of course because Sweden is the biggest floorball country and our teams love it!
What do you like about the Gothia Innebandy Cup?
– I like how huge is the tournament, a lot of halls and courts and a lot of different teams which we can face! We have much, much smaller tournaments in Slovakia and if we still want to be on the top, we need to play also hard international matches which will bring us many experiences.
What are your hopes for the 2023 edition of the Gothia Innebandy Cup? What are you most excited about?
– We're really excited to see an SSL game, to see beautiful halls and courts and the floorball culture in Sweden, which is at the highest level of the world! Our hopes are to earn as much experience as possible and maybe to beat a tough opponent which will bring us big self-confidence for the rest of the season in Slovakia.
What do you think about Gothenburg as a city? What is it like compared to Trencin?
– We love the city! Full of floorball players during the tournament! We love to have a walk around the city center and in the port and the best part is that the Slovakian national hockey team won a gold medal in 2002 here so it’s kind of special for us! In Trencin we have 55 000 people and two floorball clubs with two arenas, so it’s really not easy to compare, haha.
Do you think more teams from Slovakia should take the chance to play in the Gothia Innebandy Cup?
– This tournament is the best opportunity for young players from all over the world to compare their knowledge with the best Swedish clubs in their own country. I can’t imagine what is better, to raise as a player and to earn some experience. This is an unforgettable experience for teams from Slovakia, which every team should try! says Peter Klapita.
