Russian team Kosmos won participation in Gothia Innebandy Cup

Russian team Kosmos won the prestigious Unihoc Russia Cup in May. By doing that they also won participation in next years Gothia Innebandy Cup.
”Coming to the tournament in Gothenburg is a great opportunity to enrich our game and competitive experience”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko, mother to one of the players.

One of Russias largest and most prestigious floorball tournaments for children and youth teams are held in the city of Veliky Novgorod every year. A large number of teams participate and makes it almost like a holiday for floorball. This year the winners in each age category were granted a special prize in addition to the cup and medals – they also won participation in Gothia Innebandy Cup 2020. Kosmos were victorious in the age group for boys born in 2008.

”We were able to take the first place after a difficult fight. The teams strengths are cohesion, mutual understanding on the playing field, respect for the opponent, perseverance and the will to win. The team never gives up, they play until the last second”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko.

In January the team will come to Sweden and Gothenburg. But it’s not the first time they travel abroad to play floorball.

”Earlier this year the team took part in the international Helsinki Floorball Cup, which was a good experience. In order to take part in Gothia Innebandy Cup, we need to go three days by different means of transport – train, bus and ferry. We are very happy to take part in the Gothia Innebandy Cup and we look forward to interesting and exciting games. It’s a great opportunity to enrich our game and competitive experience to play against teams from other countries”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko.

Kosmos are based in the small town of Mirny in the Arkhangelsk region, located in the northern part of the country. Since Russia joined the floorball movement in the early 90s, Arkhangelsk has become a region where floorball has a leading position, much thanks to Kosmos coach Tukhbatulin Vinir, who’s been developing the club since 2003.

”Currently the club trains children aged 6 to 16 years. Training takes place all year round – outside in the summer and in the autumn and during winter and spring in the gym or on an ice rink. Not far from us are several other floorball clubs and we constantly meet them at competitions of various levels. Our region holds a leading position in floorball among children’s teams”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko.

We’re looking forward to welcome Kosmos to Gothenburg in January!
