Young goalkeeper star will host the goalkeeper school

Gothia Innebandy Cup’s popular goalkeeping school is back during next year’s tournament. Pixbo’s and Swedens U19 goalkeeper Kalle Lundgren will be in charge of the training sessions.
”The most important thing as a young floorgoalie is to be open to try new things”, says Kalle Lundgren.

It’s the third year in a row that Gothia Innebandy Cup will arrange a goalkeeping school during the tournament, which is now only a month away. The training sessions have been both popular and educational for the young goalkeepers who has participated. Kalle Lundgren played in the under 19 World Championships earlier this year and is a part of Pixbo’s team in Swedish Super League and he will share his knowledge to the young and aspiring keepers.

”I won’t change too much in their games, but mostly give tips and see what’s right for them”, he says.

Already he comes up with a good tip.

”It is important to be open to test new things. I had a different style of play a few years ago, but since I was open minded, I have found a style that suits me and my style of play better”, he says.

Kalle played in the Gothia Innebandy Cup in his younger years. Now he gets the chance to experience the tournament in a different way and at the same time help young players develop.

”It will be very fun, I only have good memories from the Gothia Innebandy Cup and it will be exciting to be a part of the tournament again, now in a differens way”, he says.

The training will take place on Saturday January 4 at the Gothia Valhalla Center, in total there will be three sessions during the day. It’s the teams that books accommodation at school or hotel via Gothia Innebandy Cup that have the opportunity to attend the goalkeeping school. All information about the school will be sent out to these teams.

IBK Mantorp is ready for the new 17-year old category

Many teams have discovered the new age category for 17-year olds in Gothia Innebandy Cup. IBK Mantorp is one of the teams that will participate in the G17.
”We’re looking forward to play many matches”, says the team’s coach Alexander Jederström.

When the next edition of the Gothia Innebandy Cup starts in January, it’s also the premiere of G17 and B17. The idea is that this new age category will give participants another opportunity to play against peers. IBK Mantorp, like many other teams, have mixed teams in terms of age. For them, the new 17-year class means that their players can play together without having to seek dispensary for senior players.

”We have mixed teams of girls born 2001-2004. We have one born in 2001, eight 02s, two 03s and ten 04s, so it’s a big age spread in the team. It might have been even better for us to play in the 16-year old class, but we can’t have that many dispensaries”, says Alexander Jederström.

Mantorp is a small city with about 4,000 inhabitants located next to European Road 4 in Östergötland. The community is perhaps best known for the racing track Mantorp Park, where many international racing competitions have been held. Mantorp is also the home of the floorball club IBK Mantorp. The club has about 150 players in nine teams. 2015 the club participated in the Gothia Innebandy Cup in G15. When the team comes to Gothenburg in January it will be the second time the club participates with a team in Gothia Innebandy Cup.

”We wanted to do some major activity like training camp or a cup that specifik weekend. I searched online, and came to think of this tournament since my daughter was playing football in the Gothia Cup this summer”, Alexander Jederström continues.

The team’s 21 players train together twice a week. Four leaders and a large number of parents and siblings will also have travel to Gothenburg.

”The most important thing for us is that we have fun as a team and become even more welded, we have five new girls this year. We also hope that we can play many matches as we are many players so that everyone gets to play a lot. We’ve heard a lot about the cup and expect a good arrangement”, says Alexander Jederström.

Gothia Innebandy Cup is expanding

Gothia Innebandy Cup is expanding and will for the first time play matches in the newly built Åbymässan in Mölndal. In one of the exhibition halls of Åbymässan, two high-quality courts will be built and we will also offer hotel accommodation at the newly built Åby Hotel next door.

Åbymässan is a part of Åby Arena and is located in Mölndal, just outside of Gothenburg. The fair opened as late as January 2019 and in addition to 10,500 square meters of exhibition hall, Åby Arena contains a horse race track, hotel, gym, restaurants and a café. A state-of-the-art facility that will be a perfect addition to the Gothia Innebandy Cup.

– We are very pleased with working together with Åbymässan, as we see the opportunity to offer high-quality courts in a place that is unique, says Lena Rönnefors, tournament director at Gothia Innebandy Cup.

As said, Åbymässan can offer a 10,500 square meters exhibition hall and has very good facilities for sporting events.

– Our hope is to be able to grow with more courts and eventually build a center where our players can hang out and take part in other fun activities, says Lena Rönnefors.

Russian team Kosmos won participation in Gothia Innebandy Cup

Russian team Kosmos won the prestigious Unihoc Russia Cup in May. By doing that they also won participation in next years Gothia Innebandy Cup.
”Coming to the tournament in Gothenburg is a great opportunity to enrich our game and competitive experience”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko, mother to one of the players.

One of Russias largest and most prestigious floorball tournaments for children and youth teams are held in the city of Veliky Novgorod every year. A large number of teams participate and makes it almost like a holiday for floorball. This year the winners in each age category were granted a special prize in addition to the cup and medals – they also won participation in Gothia Innebandy Cup 2020. Kosmos were victorious in the age group for boys born in 2008.

”We were able to take the first place after a difficult fight. The teams strengths are cohesion, mutual understanding on the playing field, respect for the opponent, perseverance and the will to win. The team never gives up, they play until the last second”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko.

In January the team will come to Sweden and Gothenburg. But it’s not the first time they travel abroad to play floorball.

”Earlier this year the team took part in the international Helsinki Floorball Cup, which was a good experience. In order to take part in Gothia Innebandy Cup, we need to go three days by different means of transport – train, bus and ferry. We are very happy to take part in the Gothia Innebandy Cup and we look forward to interesting and exciting games. It’s a great opportunity to enrich our game and competitive experience to play against teams from other countries”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko.

Kosmos are based in the small town of Mirny in the Arkhangelsk region, located in the northern part of the country. Since Russia joined the floorball movement in the early 90s, Arkhangelsk has become a region where floorball has a leading position, much thanks to Kosmos coach Tukhbatulin Vinir, who’s been developing the club since 2003.

”Currently the club trains children aged 6 to 16 years. Training takes place all year round – outside in the summer and in the autumn and during winter and spring in the gym or on an ice rink. Not far from us are several other floorball clubs and we constantly meet them at competitions of various levels. Our region holds a leading position in floorball among children’s teams”, says Evgeniy Snegurenko.

We’re looking forward to welcome Kosmos to Gothenburg in January!
