Gothia Innebandy Cup has decided to cancel the tournament
Gothia Innebandy Cup has decided to cancel the tournament, scheduled 3–6 of January. After consulting with the Public Health Agency of Sweden, as well as the local authorities and the Swedish Sports Confederation, we have come to the conclusion that it’s not possible to arrange the floorball tournament due to the corona pandemic.
“It’s a tough decision to make but our participants’ and our officials’ health and safety are always our top priority and therefore we need to take our responsibility when the situation in the society requires it”, says Lena Rönnefors, Tournament Director.
Since months, Gothia Innebandy Cup has planned for an adjustment of the tournament, to be able to arrange Gothia Innebandy Cup in accordance with the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s general advice and recommendations, applicable laws and regulations and in accordance with the Swedish Floorball Association’s guidelines and recommendations during the corona pandemic.
Today, with an increasing spread of Covid-19 in Sweden, Gothia Innebandy Cup has made the decision to cancel the tournament, after consulting with the Public Health Agency of Sweden as well as the local health authorities in the region.
“The Public Health Agency has presented their concern and that they, at the moment, find it inappropriate to arrange large scale tournaments, where a large number of teams from different regions in Sweden come together. Both due to the risk of increased spread of Covid-19 but also in regard to the risk of an increased burden on the local healthcare, not least because Gothia Innebandy Cup is held during the holidays, when the burden on healthcare is high even without the pandemic”, says Lena Rönnefors.
The risk assessment has also taken note of the fact that the tournament is held indoors and is played over several days. Also, there might be local regulations during the time for the tournament, which create a great deal of uncertainty for our participating teams as well as for the organiser, in the planning and the implementation of Gothia Innebandy Cup.
All registered teams will have their paid participation fee refunded. Send your request for refund to email@example.com, including the team’s registration number and we will get back to you with more information and confirmation. For administrative reasons we need your request for refund before December 31st, after that date no refunds will be made.
Gothia Innebandy Cup apologises for the negative news and kindly asks for your understanding. Our hope is that all of you – players, leaders, referees, officials, partners and collaborators – will be able to be a part of Gothia Innebandy Cup 2022 instead.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the patience and the understanding we have been shown in an extraordinary situation. Take care of yourselves and each other, because it is together that we will get through this. We miss you all and can’t wait until we meet again”, says Lena Rönnefors.
Gothia Innebandy Cup 2022 will be held January 6–9.
